PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. PREMISES REQUIRED BY CITY. The executive eommutee of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association met at the Town Hall yesterday afternoon under the chairman-hip of the Mayor (Mr. J. H. Gunson). Other members present were: —Mrs. Buckleton, Messrs. V. J. Lamer. J. F. Ewen, ¥.. A. Craig, W. B. Leyland, C. R. Munro, C. Rhodes, A. J. Entrican. C.J. Tunks, A. <_. Lunn, H. D. Heather, and A. S. Bankart. The Auckland Women's Patriotic League intimatpd that it had made application to the Minister in Charge of War "Funds for authority to transfer £15.000 from the Women's League to be placed to the credit of "B" fund of the Patriotic Association. This was in connection with the Minister's suggestion for overcoming technical objections to tbs Women's League directly allocating funds to tbe proposed Soldiers' Club. Arising out of the proposal to enlarge the scope of the association by granting assistance to fit men in necessitous circumstances through war service. the meeting decided to notify the revision of constitution to the Minister of Internal Affairs for approval. tee of the Red Cross Society and the St. John Ambulance Association for the provision of garden seats at Rotorua wa= Teferred to the Rotorua branch with power to act. The Advisory Board of Xew Zealand War Relief Societies intimated that the Administrator of the New Zealand Torces in England had advised, in response to an inquiry from the Board, t_at a further f 1,000 was required for comforts for troops in England.—The remission of Auckland's quota, £245, was approved. A letter was received from the town clerk intimating that in consequence of the offices at present occupied by the association heing required for the council's growing work, it would be necessary for the association to make arrangements to vacate the premises by December 30th.—The letter was referred to the Finance Comr ittee. A resolution received from the Wanganui Patriotic Association with reference to recent regulations for the protection of soldiers against actions at law, demanded their rescission on account of their effect upon soldiers' credit. The executive took no action on account of the recent amendments announced by Government. The Auckland Women's Patriotic League wrote asking the association to take over the furnishings and administration of the Soldiers' Club Annexe.— The chairman explained that this step had become necessary owing to the work of the Women's League drawing to a close. At present the annexe, which provided sleeping accommodation for soldiers, was practically self-supporting.— After discussion, the letter was referred to the Finance Committee, with the suggestion that the Women's Patriotic X/eagne should be asked to furnish a "balance sheet in connection with the proposed transfer. The Claims Board reported that the work continued to be very heavy, and that the number of applicants had been fully maintained. Assistance continued to he afforded in all necessitous cases arising from war service, the committee giving special attention to the recurrence of trouble arising from wounds or eickness. —The report was adopted. The committee approved the payment of an honorarium of _o0 to the Thames honorary secretary. Leave of absence for four months was granted to the Mayor and Mayoress, and it was intimated that the chairmanship of the executive would be discharged by Mr. V. J. Lamer during Mr. Gunson's absence.
