A STATIONMASTER'S APPEAL. The Railway Appeal Board commenced its sitting this morning, when the first of two appeals sot down for hearing toj day was partly dealt with. .Mr. J. G. IL. Hewitt, S.M., is chairman, and with , him are Mr. A. W. Hutohings, representing the first division, and Mr. Lee, second division member. Th« appeal was i lodged by Wm. W. Eidgley, sta.tion- ; master at Mercer (represented by Mr. iH. Williams) on the ground that he had \ been superseded for promotion to grade j ti. Tho opinion of the Department was J that the appellant lacked the necessary , force of character ami personality for ] promotion to the next grade. Evidence J was given by Mr. A. Duncan, district traffic manager, and Mr A. K. OTxmghlin (Ohakunp). No objcciiun was made :o : appellant's work. H-e vraa retrognised as . l>?ing an accurate., careful and painstak- ■ ing officer. Additional evidence is being taken tliis afiternoon.
