INCREASES IN HIGHER GRADES. WELLINGTON, Sunday. In a statement in regard to police offi-j<-crs" pay, tlie Minister of Justice sumlinarised the increases authorised to [sonior officers^ i Tire four superintendents have been j granted an increase of £40 per annum, • eight inspectors a similar increase, while J sub-inspectors and senior sergeants have ■ been grajrted that scale of increase I »lik-.h places them in a fair position as repinls other branches of the service to which increases have already been made. Ihe house allowance of uniformed sergeairts and constables has recently been ; increased to £.!!1 per annum, and the ! j same allowance has now been gran-ted ! ;to certain senior sergeants, detective sergeants and detectives. Tlie total cost of the increases is estimated at between £4,000 and £5 000 and this, widi £22,000 per annum for«»h£ to s< -' r <uid conj stables will bring the annual increased W J?-n^ PayerS to £20,000; ( and £2,,000 per annum.
