MODERATE SECTION OF UNION! IF GRANTED INCREASE OP WAGES. MOST DISASTROUS UPHEAVAL. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyrlght.l (Received 10.35 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Tho moderate section of the seamen have issued an appeal stating that they are prepared to resume immediately if the owners grant an increase of twenty shillings a month and a six hours' working day when in port, the other claims to be placed before the Arbitration Court. Replying to a deputation of Melbourne union secretaries asking for relief for strike distress, Mr. Watt, Acting Federal Premier, described the seamen's strike as the most disastrous which had ever occurred because the Government law was practically challenged.
