A fire occurred in Gillies Avenue, Epsom, at half-past five this morning in an outhouse adjoining the residence of Mr. J. J. Macky. The shed, with its contents,, was gutted though the outbreak was prevented from spreading to the surrounding buildings. The damage is estimated at about £70, there beinono covering insurance. Rates for the current year in the city area were formally struck by the City Council last night, on the basis previously indicated by the Mayor, making an increase of the general rates of I_3 in the £ on last year's.
