SLY GROGGING
A GROWING EVIL. KITXG COUNTRY OUTCRY. (By Telegraph.—ll'ress Association.) TAUMARUNUI, this day. The Chamber of Commerce, at a meeting last night, discussed the growing seriousness of the e\y grog traffic in Taumarunui and district. Almost every member present voiced public indignation at the scope and extent of the evil, and the meeting unanimously passed a resolution drawing the attention of the authorities to the present intolerable state of affairs, with a view to immediately curbing and finally stamping out the evil. The opinion was freely expressed that the law was at fault, and sympathy was expressed with the police in their present difficulties in securing convictions. A further resolution was unanimously carried, asking the Borough Council to eupport the Chamber in the action being taken. One member reported that recently a returned soldier was "lambed down" and relieved of all his allotment money, totalling nearly £00,
