QUEEN VICTORIA.
CENTENARY OF HER BIRTH. The centenary of the birth of Queen Victoria occurs to-day. She was born at Kensington Palace on May 24, 1811), and ascended the throne in succession to her uncle. Will's.;*! l\\. on June 21, 1537. She married her cousin, I'rince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha in 1840. and had
three sons and four (laughters. She reigned for over 03 years, her diamond jubilee being celebrated in June, 1807 all over the Empire. She died on January 22, 1001. Her eldest son, Edward VII., was crowned, and reigned for nine years, being followed by his second son, George V., the reigning Sovereign. Queen Victoria's birthday has been celebrated as Empire Day since her death, but this year the celebration will be observed on the anniversary of the birth of George V.
