OTAHUHU WELCOME HOME.
A very pleasant function took place in the Masonic Hall, Otahuhu, last evening, when the local fire brigade welcomed home two of its members who have recently arrived from the front. The chair was taken by Captain J. Wilson, and he had beside him the Mayor of the borough (Mr. A. McDonald) and the guests of tlie evening (Firemen David Carson and Arthur Hesket). The function took the form of a smoke concert, with a happy selection of musical items. It was announced that when all the local boys had returned a fitting welcome would be given, to enable the services of all to be publicly recognised. The toast of the evening was proposed by Mr. R. L. Absolum, who quoted figures to show that the fire brigades throughout the Dominion had done their share in supplying the men who composed our New Zealand army. Tlie musical items were: "Army and" Navy," Mr. W. Wells; selection, Iμreman J. Mclvor; song. Mr. R. L. Absolum; reply "Army and Navy," Lieut. N. Todd: song. Mr. Boswell; recitation, Mr. W. Rowe; toast, "United Firo Brigades' Association." Mr. R. Todd; reply. Captain Wilson; song, Mr. (i. V J. Dennisnn; song (words by Mr. .1. Gillier,, nf Otohuhu). Mr. F. iWnrd; mimical demonstration with* bones, Mr. F. E. Avers: song, Mr. W. Reed.
