WATERSIDE SETTLEMENTS.

ST. HELIER'S AND KOHIMARAMA. A DEPUTATION. At the conclusion of the ordinary meeting of the Tamaki West Koad Board on Thursday the Board members, accompanied by Sir F. Lang, visited the Kohimararna and St. Helier's beaches. The chairman (Mr. E. R. Pilkington), after pointing out the enormous damage caused by recent storms on both foreshores, and tho grave risk of further encroachment, requested the help of Sir Frederick Lang in obtaining sufficient Government assistance to enable the Board to proceed with the protection work just commenced. Mr. F. Trier, Kohimarama's representative on tho Board, placed before. Sir F. Lang the unsatisfactory state of affairs owing to there being no school at Kohimarama, children of five and six years •of age having to walk nearly three miles to St. Helier's school. A solution of the difficulty would bo the establishment of a side school at Kohimarama sufficient to accommodate the primary classes. Another matter placed before Sir Frederick was the drawback to settlement and progress of the district caused by the la.-go tract of land held by the Church of Englund. Sir Frederick Lang said he realised tho very real difficulties under which the Board worked, and requested that he be supplied with tho fullest details of each case, which he would be pleased to place before the various Ministers.
