ONEHUNGA MAYORALTY.

A deputation w»ited on Mr. John I Howe last evening at Onehunga. and I presented him with a request signed by ! over 1.000 electors, to consent to lie j nominated for the Onehiinga mayoralty, i The deputation consisted of Messrs. ,1. | Simpson. I). Neilson. \V. !'. Watts. R. \". i Sutherland, anil .1. K. (. owell. In reply. ' Mr. Rowe stated that he had undertaken j some extensive building operations at Te Aroha. when he was there lust week, ! which would necessitate Ids absence from Onehunga for the next live or six ■ months. He recognised that the Mayor j of Onehungn would rei|iiire to give most | of his time to ins ollieial duties. It would he most dilVn'itlt for him to do I justice to his business during that time. I and to Onehunga if he was elected Mayor, for the reason stated. He would see if! he could possibly make arrangements , for his business whereby lie could give ; the necessary lime to the affairs of the | borough, hut he was afraid he would not ] be able to do so. Mr, Howe premised to give an answer towards the end of the week.
