VESSELS RETURN TO PORT.

PORT MELBOURNE AND ATUA.

The Union Company's Island steamer Atua, which left for Sydney on Tuesday evening, with a large number of passengers, returned to port early this morning with an accident to her machinery. I The vessel sent out a wireless message 'yesterday afternoon, stating that she ! had sustained a slight mishap, and that ! she would be returning. She entered 'port this morning shortly after one , o'clock, and anchored in the stream, ! where repairs were being carried out. The sudden return of the Commonwealth and Dominion steamer Port Melbourne, which left for Tokomaru Bay yesterday afternoon, was greeted with surprise. The vessel was due to sail from Tokomaru .Bay to Napier and Wellington, where , she was to load for England. Tt appears j that one of the crew sustained an injury |to his hand, which was of such scrious- | ness that it required the services of a ! doctor. The doctor boarded the Vessel I this morning, and the injured man was | treated. Both vessels will continue their voyages to-day.
