» Mr. S. Timmerman, of New York, fa at the Grand Hotel. Mr. J. Hay, chief electoral officer of this city, is visiting Wellington. Mr. Harold Beauchamp, chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand, is at the Northern Club, and Mr. W. Watson (a director) is staying ai Glenalvon. Mr. Ernest Drake, the well-known tenor singer, is to be given a complimentary farewell concert at Dunedin, prior to his departure for the United States and England to continue his vocal studies. Mr. William Willoujrhby, who died at New Plymouth Hospital, aged 73 years, was a member of the old Armed Con : stabulary Eorce. From that body he was transferred to the police, and retired on superannuation about twelve months ago. Dr. J. Allan Thomson, director of the Dominion Museum, has gone to Marlborough at the request of the Geological Survey Department, to conduct investigations in the Kereangu district with respect to prospects for petroleum. Some three years ago Dr. Thomson discovered a seepage of oil in that district. Brigadier-General Bernard lYeyburg, of Wellington, has received two bars to his D.S.O. medal, also the French Croix de Guerre with palm leaves. Sir Wiliam Fraser, Minister of Public Works, arrived in Auckland by the Main Trunk train this morning, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. The chief object of the Minister's present visit is to farewell his daughter, Mis 3 Fraser, who i« leaving by the Makura to-morrow on a visit to America and Europe. Sir William returns to Wellington by to-morrow night's train, and intends coming up to Auckland again next month on Ministerial business.
