VICTORY MOTOR RUN.

CHILDREN FROM THE HOMES. PICNIC AT BUCKLAND'S BEACH. "You don't know what it means to these children. A motor car ride is something they revel in. They are all highly excited and keenly looking forward to the holiday." These were the words on Saturday morning of a matron of a home for children, who were taken out in motor cars by the Auckland Automobile Association that afternoon. The trip was made under the title of the '■Victory Motor Run," and nothing for the children could be guaranteed to ensure a happier time and a more tangible mark of the Allied victory than this treat. About six hundred children from the Salvation Army Home, Heme Bay, Mt. Albert Methodise Orphanage, Rev. F. R. Jeffrys' Home, St. Mary's Home, Onehunga, Manurewa Home, Leslie Orphanage, Remuera, and the Children's Home, Richmond Road, were collected in groups of eleven and twelve cars at the respective institutions at one o'clock, and all the cars eet out en route for Buckland's Beach, Tainaki. The children were in gay spirits, and the vehicles conveying them were especially decorated with bunting for the occasion. Before the war it was customary for the association to take the children out, but since the war started the practice had been abandoned. The excursion was a delightful celebration of peace for the children concerned, as they are in some respects less fortunate than those who have their parents and homes of their own. Mr M. H. Wynyard welcomed the J children, and gave a patriotic address. The garrison band was in attendance, and at the teach demonstratione of fly- ■ ing were given with seaplanes by Kohimarama Flying School representatives. The association provided all the refrcsh- | ments. The weather being fine, a splendid picnic and outing was the privilege of the children, who returned in the evening.
