NORTHCMFFE'S OPINIONS. LONDON*, March 2. Mr. Geoffrey Dawson, ia a letter to the chairman of the "Times" Publishing Company resigning the editorship of the "Times," etatee that the step originated in Ix>rd Xorthcliffe'e constant dissatisfaction with the policy of the "Times" on the ground that it differed from Lord Xorthcliffe's own expression ot opinion in other papers. Mr. AVielcham Stood, the foreign editor, succeed* Mr. Geoffrey Dawson as editor of the -Times."—(United Service.) Mr. Geoffrey Dawson, whose name was originally Robinson, succeeded Mr. Buckle as editor of the "Times" in 1912. He was one of Lord Milner'e young men. Educated at Eton and Oxford, he entered the Colonial Office, and was private secretary to Lord Milner in South Africa from 1901 to 1905. He then •became editor .of the "Johannesburg Star," and acted as "Times" correspondent in South Africa. Mr. Wickham Steed, the new editor, has been foreign editor of the "Times" since 1914. He served the "Times" in foreign capitals, including Berlin and Vienna, for a good many years, and. is one of the leading English authorities on Central Europe, and especially AustriaHungary. He has written "a book on the Jlapsburgs, and is a regular contributor on foreign questions to the English magazines.
