OBITUARY.
I OLD ONEHUNGA RESIDENT. j Mrs. Louisa Mary DLxon died on February 27 at the residence of her son, Mr. Horatio Dixon, 42, Karaka Street, Newton, at the advanced age of 94 years. Deceased was an old resident of Onehunga, being widow of the late Mr. W. W. Dixon. CAPTAIN WIT-MAM McDOKNKLL. The death of Captain Wm. McDonnell jat Putiki last Wednesday, aged 85 lyeare, removes another of the veterans of the Maori war. As a young man he 'took part with the forces during the [troublous times in Taranaki, in their engagements with Titokowaru and his followers. At this time he was in charge of a Maori contingent, and under Ilia brother, Colonel McDonnell. He was wounded at Ngutuotemanu Pa, where Major yon Tempsky was killed in action. He also went to Whakatane (Bay of Plenty), as an officer with the Maori friendlies from Wanganui, in their efforts to capture Te Kooti. He wse .considered by the Maoris to be a very brave and gallant soldier. Captain McDonnell married Tarihira Kereti, a Maori lady of considerable standing and I influence.
