Mrs. H. Leslie Friend, of Wellington, is on a visit to Auckland, and is staying ut Cargen. Mr. and Mrs. G. Siaeei, of Egypt, tire staying at Cargen, and will probably ■settle in Auckland. Dr. and Mrr.. l.inilo Ferguson, oi Dnnedin. are visiting Christchurch, in connection with the sessions of the University ."-'mate. Sir Rupert and Lady Clarke, who came over from Australia n few weeks ago, and have been .-.[lending most of the time ■since in South Canterbury, fishing, are now in Christchurch. Mr. E, K. Clarke is with them. Mr and Mrs. A. E. Kernot, of Cpper Willis Street. Wellington, will leave by the next trip of the Niagara with the intention of spending the winter months in Los Angeles. W. Holmes and Mrs. Sinclair Thompson, of Wellington. Amongst the guests at the Grand are Mr. and Mrs. Norwood, of Wangenui. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Fitzgerald, of Wellington, and Mr. and Mrs. Klgar Martin, of Featherston, who have been on a fishing excursion to Russell. The engagement is announced of Miss Madge Pollock, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Pollock, of Bahrain. Sydney, to Lieut. Roy F. Ellis, M.M., N.Z-F... second son of Mr. and Mrs. H. T. S. Ellis, of Whare Maiinga, New Lynn. Auckland. A charming luncheon party was given by Mrs. W. R. Wilson at her beautiful home, .St. Leonards. Takapuna, on Thursday, when twelve representative ladies were invited to meet Mrs. Rhodes, of Seattle, Washington State. Mrs. Wilson received her guests attired in a becoming gown of black tafTetta. The Juneheon party consisted of Mesdamos Gunson. Parkes, Maguire, Talbot, Lucas Bloomfielcl, Benjamin, Louisson. C. Nathan, and R-y Wilson. In the afternoon about forty ladies were invited to take afternoon tea in the beautiful lounge with Mrs. Rhodes, and to hear her explain the great world movement amongst women, of which Western America is one of the vanguards. Mrs. Rhodes, who is an inspiring, brilliant, and fluent speaker, who has addressed audiences of ten thousand people, and audiences composed of the picked minds o' America, was listened to with close attention throughout the address, and thanked by those present at the close.
