The war news had lately been much brighter, and ,he hoped that by this time next year the , members of the club who were still in the flrlng line would be occupying their old places on the Onehnnga green. The president's daughter threw the first jack, and the singing of the National Anthem added dignity to an enjoyable and 1— prcssive scene. An adjournment was then made to the adjoining croquet lawns, where the president of the bowling club again officiated, assisted by the president of the croquet clnb, Mrs W. K. EvHt, in the formal opening of the lawns. In lighter vein Mr. Mackenzie referred to the interest that bowlers always displayed in the game of croquet, and "assured the ladles that anything he could do to promote their enjoyment during the season would be a pleasure.
