KILLED IN A TUNNEL.
ANOTHER SERIOUSLY INJURED A CHARGE 'EXPLODES. (Bjr Telegraph.—Press Association.) TAUMARL'NUI, this day. A returned soldier named Archibald Kitto. married, was killed, and hie mate, Tom Borthwii.'k, a married man with six children, was seriously iujured in an explosion in the Okahu tunnel yesterday. Kitto, who had been twice wounded at the war, was shockingly i mutilated in the left arm, leg, and face, and had one eye blown clean out, arid < was rendered totally blind. He died in i the Taumarunui Hospital this morning. : Borth-vriek. suffered injuries to the i face, due to pellets of papa, like shots i i from a gun. Both his eyes were injured. At present he is blind, and may become permanently blind. He received no ■body injuries. There arc two storie3 of the accident, one that in drilling the men struck an old charge, the other that a charge misfired and they went to investigate.
