• i RUGBY. » THE BALI, COMPETITION. A second stage of the Ball Competition <■ instituted by the Rugby Union was reached on Saturday. The match in which most ' Interest centred was that between University and Grafton, played on No. 1 ground ' at Eden lark. before a fairly large assem- ' hly of spectators. In view of Urafton's recent performances and the consistently good play of University this season, a good game was anticipated, and this proved to . be the case, althougn the latter fifteen' won the laurels fairly comfortably by 28 points to l.">. The respective forward divisions were well matched, but despite solid play on the part of the Grafton rearguard. University backs outmanoeuvred * the opposition. For the winners tries were scored by Miller (2), Molloy, Gasparich. ' Thomas, and Sims. Lewis kicked three , goals and Itrinsden two. Tries for Grafton were secured by Kronfeld (21. Hammond. and r.ongville, and Bray kicked a penalty goal. The match between Grammar Old Boys and Marlst Old Boys was played on No. 2 ground at Eden Park. The game was even and Jslrly fast, the result being a draw with three points each. May scored for Grammar and Martin kicked a penalty goal for Marist Brothers. The College Rifics-Ponsonhy contest provided an interesting, hard, fast game. In which heavy forwards wore down dashing backs, and pave the former team a win by 18 points to 12, niter the scoring had been fairly even throughout. For the winners tries were scored by Binney, Heard. Phillips, and Laxon. the latter, with flue kicking, converting three. For the losers one try was scored by Altken, which the same player converted, while Kelly contributed a potted goal from the field and a goal from a penalty. The cnrtain raiser to the senior game on No. 1 ground at Eden Park was the junior representative match. Auckland Third Grade v. a Gold fields team. The Association football championship wns decided on Saturday afternoon, and Shore declared the winners on points.
