SUSPICIOUS FIRES.
PAEROA PEOPLE UNEASY. INQUIRY ASKED FOR. Some uneasiness has been caused in Paeroa by the number of tires that have occurred there recently. Our correspondent writes:—A public meeting convened by the Mayor. -Mr. \V. ,C 3. Towers, was held in the Coronation Chambers on Tueeclay eveninjj, for the purpose of askin>j for a eoronial inquiry in connection with the recent tires. The -Mayor staled that all the fires occurred about the same hour in the morning. He was not personally interested in the matter, bin had been asked to call the meeting with a view of deciding if a coronial inquiry should he held in the interests of the business people and citizens generally.
Mr Taylor, (ire insurance adjuster, said it was in the interests of the borough, the insurance companies, and every individual concerned, that an inquiry i.houlil be. held. The insurance companies were not asking in their own interests, but in the interests of all concerned.
Mr. K. W. Porritt, after paying a hi<rh testimony to the work of the. lire brigade, moved. "That this meeting of the residents of Paeroa request thai a coronial inquiry he held into the circumstances of the recent tires in Paeroa. ■>!" the :!rd. nth. and ±2nd of Autrtist. through which certain residents of the town of Paeroa have r.uiTered considerable lose of property and goods, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to lite Minister of Justine with a request thai it ho given effect to."
Tin- motion was seconded by Mr. Pol ter. and carried.
