Owing to hits wife's ill-health, Thoe Chamberlain, l'onsonby (Mr. Dickson). received extension of leave until January 9. The appeal of Innes 11. Durbridge. currier. Grey Lynn, was reviewed. The appellant had been recently discharged from tlie hospital, and. on the evidence before it. the Board recommended medical re-examination. The adjourned appeal of Thoe. H. Kirkiis. of East Street, was considered. IHe married on May 1, 1915, and had a , legally adopted child and two other [children. The Board Raid the adopted child did not count, on it was adopted after May. 1915. The Board said he had not he.en balloted. Rees, of Symonds Street, but-ter-factory assistant, employed by the I Standard Dairy Company, was appealed for by hio employers, who 6tated that 'since the reservist had been before the 1 Board to submit personal grounds, be had been placed in an essential position as second man in the factory, the output of which last year was 167 tons. Major Oonlan pointed out that a second assistant was not regarded by the Efficiency Board as essential. The Board gave leave until November 7, and advised the manager of the company (Bart Van Veen) that he would have to replace the reservist. The adjourned appeal of Leonard J. Brumby (Mr. Hopkins) was now supported by his employers. Henderson and Pollard, timber workers, who said that Brumby was indispensable, as he wae a caw doctor and bad charge of all their saws in their factory, where furniture for the Auckland district schools war ;madc. besides furniture for hospitals, etc. The firm employed forty-six bande, and although it had lost valued employees, this was the first appeal made. Time was required in order that the work of the huAv season could be carried out. On the personal "round? appellant, was a last remaining "on. a brother having been killed in action, and one wae still at the war. The Board decided to sive leave till January, in order to allow apnellant I to arrange his affairs, and also to enable the employers to carry out necessary work and replace Brumby. RESERVISTS IN INDUSTRY. Exemption sine die was given Arthur McDonald, dairy farmer, Waiuku (Mr. A. E. Skeltoii). who said he was assisting in the management of three farms—one belonging to his mother, one his own, and the other owned by a brother on service. His five other brothers in the district were farmer?, and were fully occupied. An appeal wae made for Christopher Chapman (CI), a boat-builder, employed by Chae. Bailey, jun. (Mr. A. E. Skelton), who said the reservist did shipwright work. The employer said shipwrights were scarce. Major Conlan said it wae peculiar that he *nonld have been out of work recently if he was a competent shipwright. The appeal was adjourned for further information. I
