ROVE CAPTURED

HINDENBURG LINE CROSSED

NEW ZEALANDERS OUTFLANK BAPAUME

The Allies continue to hammer away at the German line, Mid they are still making progress despite the stiffening of the German resistance as reserves are thrown in. The bigg-est advance made yesterday was on the French front in the angle Of the great salient, at Roye. Here an attack was orgranised on a front of eight miles, a depth of two miles being attained on this front. Roye, which was in the hands of the Germans during the long period of static fighting, was captured, while the village of Crapeaumesnil, four miles to the southward, was also taken. In the operations leading to the captures of these two points eleven hundred prisoners were taken. The New Zealanders have outflanked Bapaume. and have crossed the Cambrai road to the north-east. It is believed that the ruined city has been evacuated by the Germans. The British have smashed the northern portion of the Hindenburg line at Heninel. Heavy rain has increased the difficulties of the attacking forces. Further progress has been made on the Somme, Maricourt having been captured.
