MILITARY SERVICE APPEALS.
HAMILTON SITTINGS CONCLUDED. (.From Our Own Correspondent.) The Auckland Military Appeal Board No. 2 concluded its sittings at Hamilton on Saturday. Its present tour of the Waikato district establishes a record In so far as the number of appeals Is concerned. The Board left Aucklaud on June 10, and sac at Thames on the 11th, dealing with 30 cases. At Te Aroha next day it beiyrd 1.1 appeals. 30 oh Thursday, and 29 on Friday. On Monday last at Te Kulti 28 cases were disposed of, 25 at Te Awamutu on Tuesday, while at Hamilton on Wednesday 20 were heard. 30 on Thursday, 53 on Friday, and 13 on Saturday. Mrs Bryant (represented by Mr Clifford) appealed ou behalf of Trooper .1. G. Shaw. It was stated thet Trooper Shaw went away with the Main Body, having enlisted as soon as war broke out. lie had served for three years and 240 days, and his conduct wis reported as "very good." He was now in hospital suffering from trench fever. The chairman pointed out that conditions at the rront were so serious that Military Serv.ee Boards could uot lightly recommend the return of fit men from 'the front: but in this case they would recommend that the soldier be sent home at once if no longer fit for active service. Other appeals were dealt with as follow: Alfred Ernest Ray. milker. Cambridgeadjourned for inquiry. George W-aitc, farmer, Pukekura, Leamingtonappeal dismissed. Frederick _. Tucker, mastei painter, Leamington— refused Michael J. MeNamara. farmer. Maungatau- ' tari—held over for consideration. Henry A. ' Kelly, dairy farmer, Hautapu (application i for extension)advised to make an application for a re-hearing. Herbert D. Smith, farmer —exemption sine die. Vincenl Waller Jones, farm manager, Hamilton East —held over for inquiry. Wm. G. Valentine, farmer, Huntly—adjourned. Thos. Wilson farmer, —exemption sine die. Waiter Shepherd, painter. Ngaruawahia— appeal withdrawn. G. H. Nlcitle, farmer Roto-o-rangi adjourned. (J. 1" Hutcheon. machine expert. Hamiltonleave until November 21: A. Nicholson miner, Huntly West—appeal dismissed.
