NEW YORK, June. 23.
j The newspapers are giving prominence to a speech by Earl Readins, special British Minister to the United States, as indicating a desire for the closest relations between Britain and America. Earl Reading, acknowledging the conferring of the degree of Doctor of Laws by Harvard University, said: "Britain desires to combine with America as fully as you -„il) allow, for the. benefit of humanity." Mr. Charles W. Elliott, president of Harvard, expressed the hope that the Ambassador would eventually he able !to arrange an offensive and defensive alliance between Britain and America.
