General Sir Douglas Haig reports: '"'We captured prisoners and machine guns, and inflicted many casualties in raids and patrol encounters at Dveluy Wood, Hebuterne, Boyelles, and on both banks of the river Scarpe. We repulsed with loss several attempts to recapture ground north-westward of Merria." A French communique states: "We improved our positions north of Faverolles and in the region south of Hautevesnes."—(A. and N.Z. and Reuter.)
