SOLDIER SETTLEMENTS.

ADVISORY BOARDS URGED.

FARiiERS" CONFERENCE DISCUSSION. The subject 01" soldier settlement-: was fussed at some length at the Farme r >' Union conference last night. Jhe difficulty in arriving at a rcimt to embody the whole of the views of the acJesates was the principal reason for the "length of the discussion. Some of the delegates advocated the purchase oi improved lands and others the purchase of unimproved lands, whilst the questton of supervision by Government experts of those soldier settlers who lad nc previous experience was favoured fey some of tiie delegates but not by ethers. Other views were put forward. Irnt the general opinion appeared to be that the issues were too divergent in tven several remits, and that only the Jarad principle could be laid down. An amendment by Mr. K. Body. Te Kuiti, shows this tendency, the same reading ts follows (a remit from the King Country sub-provisional executive) —"That the Government be urged to appoint competent farmers" boards to report, in an advisory capacity, to report on suitable land for settlement of Teturned soldiers, and also the necessity of subdividing and opening for the lar»e areas of land in the Auckland province/"
