We are also short of tents." RELIEF ACKNOWLEDGED. '.The following communication has been Teceived by the Mayor-(Mr. J. H. Gunson), from Mr. E. F. Barry (Mayor of Ohakune): —"I enclose herewith voucher for £205 collected in Auckland and forwarded by you. I wish to assure you, the Mayor and citizens of Auckland, that the people of this district are full of gratitude for your prompt and spontaneous help- It is impossible for mc at present to give you any idea of the extent of the loss. The Crown Lands rangers and assistants are methodically covering the whole district, and will be in a position to report on Monday or Tuesday. We know that the losses of stock are heavy. An officer of the Lands Department will be in Raetihi on Monday or Tuesday at latest, "He and an executive under my chairmanship will go into the matter of distribution of monetary relief. The distribution of the jroods and the Government grant has iicen proceeding under the able guidance of the local clergymen, the Salvation Army, and the V.M.C.A., to which institutions we handed over that department. I should feel obliged if you would let it be known in Auckland that the people of the district iiave not adjectiree in their vocabulary to qualify the excellent services rendered by the Salvation Army and the V.M.C.A." DISTRIBUTION OF RELIEF. (By Telegraph.—l'rcss Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Lands is on the way to Kaetihi district to set in motion for affording relief to settlers ■who suffered from the recent bush fires. The scheme is to supply, on liberal terme, grass seed, fencing material, etc.. Mr. Sandford, a Lands Department officer, will be stationed in the district for a time, and it has been arranged that all authorised supplies shall be made through him in an expeditious manner. TW Hon. Mr. Guthrie states that the Government highly appreciates the splendid response from all parts of the Dotti nion in the interests of the settlers affected by the fire. RE-ERECTION OF MILLS.
