MINERS WARNED.
s MUST KESUME WORK. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)' WELLINGTON, Sunday. The following telegram in reference to the strikes in the coal mines on the West Coast was sent to the Labour Department's representative at the scene of the strikes by Mr. F. Rowley, Secretary for Labour: —"I am directed by the Prime Minister to inform the officers of the Coal Miners' Unions whose members are on strike as follows:—The action of the coal miners who have stopped work at certain mines has already greatly interfered, not merely with the industries ol the Dominion, but with the essential duties of the New Zealand Government. Such action by men working under awards is unlawful under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, and is also a serious offence against the War Regulations. The Prime Minister trusts that the men will return to work at once. If they do not, he greatly regrets that it will be the imperative duty of the, Government to direct that proceedings he taken without further delay under the War Regulations. Please inform the principal officers of these unions accordingly at once."
