On Saturday nearly every available berth -was occupied, while the tonnage In port was exceptionally heavy. Captain Jseil Peter Johnson, who died recently, at the age of 73 years, had a rather interesting career on the sea. He was born in Norway, and signed on a trading vessel before the mast when only 14 years of age.- He was in two wrecks, one being the schooner Elizabeth Curie, which was lost near Cuvier Island, Auckland, thirty years ago. The following hours of attendance will be observed- at the Chief Post Office during the Easter holidays:— On Thursday, the 28th March, a delivery of town letters (registered as well as ordinary) will be mane over the counter in the letter carriers' branch from 7 p.m. to S p.m. Good Friday, the 20th March, will be observed as a Sunday. Malls usually dispatched on Friday will be closed on Thursday night at 7.45 p.m., with the exception of the Southern malls by the Main Trunk train, which will close as usual at 6.30 p.m. Ou Saturday afternoon, the 30th March, a full delivery will be made by letter t-arriers, nnd in addition, a delivery of town letters (registered as well as ordinary) will be made over the counter in the letter carriers' branch from 7 to 8 p.m. On Easter Monday, the Ist April, the post ollice will be open in all branches except money order and savings bank, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. only. Mails usually dispatched after S a.m. will be closed at that hour, with the exception of the Southern mails by the Main Trunk train, which will close as usual at 0.30 p.m. There will be no delivery by letter earlier iv town or suburbs, but corespondence may be obtained at the letter carriers' branch between 0 a.m. and 10 a.m. oil Easter Monday.
