MILITARY INSTRUCTION.
THREE DAYS* COURSE CONCLUDED. ' The imaginary 'battle of-Tamaki, which has been the subject of instruction imparted by L"cut.-Colonel Sleeman, Director of Military Training, to forty local officers has concluded, and it is felt that the instructional problems, regarded with developments of tactics and strategy in the present -war, will prove. of substantial benefit in- future military operations.' During the three-days of the .-work, into which^.the,,officer pupils entered- with hearty interest, the troops were moved, in accordance with plans mapped out rover, variable country. The campaign I was conducted-with due regard to losses and successes, and the. operations allowed j for the solution of problems of action by I.outposts, rearguard fighting, and retire-1-ment and general field manoeuvring. Tha 'dispositions of troops and-details of defence were also studied, and Lieut.r j Colonel Sleeman gave instruction, based j.ori active service conditions, in relation to legitimate war.destruction of railways and;bridges and methods of transport. Lieut-Colonel Sleeman congratulated the officers on their favourable work; and ■Colonel Patterson returned thanks on behalf of the officers for the instruction. Colonel G. A Ward thanked the Motor Service Corps for providing cars for thecampaign tour.
