TWO SEPARATE ENGAGEMENTS IN NORTH SEA

FRENCH BELIEVE THAT FIVE WERE SUNK. (Received 11.7 a.m.) LONDON, March 22, A French official reports states: —A division of Franco-British destroyers fought a detachment of German torpedoers in the North Sea between four and five o'clock in the morning, sinking two. Shortly afterwards the same division fought a second action with five large enemy destroyers, which had previously bombarded Dunkirk. One German destroyer was sunk and two others probably lost. We captured some prisoners. It appears that three enemy flotillas were.ordered to bombard Dunkirk, La Panne and Brayduns. A Belgian communique' states:—During the naval engagement last night off Dunkirk enemy vessels bombarded our coast towards La Panne.—(A. and N__. and Reuter.)
