THE SPANISH ELECTIONS.
A MONARCHIST VICTORY. REPUBLICANS DISAPPEAR. MADRID, February 27. The result of the elections for the Cortes is a great surprise. The Socialists and the Republicans have almost disappeared. The Monarchist parties, comprising Liberals and Conservatives of various groups, secured 300 seats out of 412. It is impossible to predict the effect on foreign policy.— (Reuter.) LONDON, February 27. Advices from Madrid state that the Monarchist victories in the elections are largely attributable to German money. Even Signor Lerroux, the Barcelona Republican, and Signor Alvarez, tho Reformist leader, were defeated. An earlier report received by wireless gave the results of the elections approximately. The returns show that the members include 170 Liberals, foreshadowing a Cabinet of Liberals, with the probable support of 85 Conservatives.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
