SIX O'CLOCK CLOSING.

ADOPTED BY CHEMISTI For years past the hours chemists had to devote to their business have been very lengthy compared with those in other avocations. At the present time chemists are open 12 hours per day for four days, 13J hours on Friday and on Saturday. An arrangement has now been arrived at by the chemists of Auckland and suburbs that from November 1 they will close their establishments at 6 pan. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Friday will be a late night, closing at 9.30 p.m., and Saturday a half- ' holiday as in other businesses. ■ An all-night pharmacy will be opened at the top of Khyber Pass to supply urgent medicines. This is being done uy the combined chemists. It will open at 6 p.m., and close at 8 a.m. A qualified chemist will be in attendance the whole of the night, and up till 12 p_n. tramcars are passing the pharmacy, the site having been chosen as the most central. On Friday evening the all-night pharmacy will not open until 9.30 pjn., when the other establishments close. By this arrangement it will be possible to geb urgent medicines a: any hour of the day or night, and chemists will not as a body have to work over 60 hours per week.
