During the day o\ or 10') American citizens and prominent professional and bu-iness men of Auckland tailed at the Consulate. Amongst the callers were: Tbe Deputy-Mayor (Mr A. J. Kntr'u-ani. the chairman of the Harbour Board (Mr 11. D. Heathen, tbe various foreign Consuls.
The Hon. Arthur Myers sent the following telegram: "Hearty congratulations to .Mm and fellow citizens on the one hundred and forty-first annivorsary of the Declaration of the independent. of the I'nited States of America, which , this year you are celebrating during a state of nar entered into for the preservation of the identical principles America publicly adopted in 177 ii. 1 trust in future years July 4 may he rivalled by April"-. 1917. as tin epo.-li-makiug date in American national his-I tory. as the day upon which \ollr great deuTOeratic country again declared for; independence, honour and civilisation.'" !
