POLICE COURT.

(Before Messrs. H. W. Hudson and J, Henderson, J.P.'s.). D_TT_K_N__SS. Susan Brunton (42), up for a third recent offence, was prohibited and discharged. One first offender forfeited t-ail William Fitzgerald, an old man who had broken a glass panel in the door of the Ponsonby Club Hotel bar, when he was under the influence of drink on Tuesday, and was refused liquor, had to have hospital attention to a deep cut on his wrist. He was stated to be destitute, and living with thß Little Sisters of the Poor. He was prohibited and ordered to pay 10/ damages anc' 27/ expenses, in default ten days' imprisonment. Frederick .Tohn Carnie (40), charged that he was found in a state of helpless drunkenness in Karangahape Road early this morning, was remanded for a week for medical treatment. A STREET DISTURBANCE. Robert Clarke (21), a Maori soldier, was charged that he was drunk in easterns Street last night, used threatening behaviour and assaulted Andrew Davidson. Another Maori soldier, Matekairoa Paniena (26). was charged that h« obstructed Constable Hargreaves in the execution of his duty, and had damaged the constable's helmet*

Evidence was to the effect that about 9 p.m.. -when men named Anderson and Davidson went into the Customs Street public lavatory, Clarke got into an argument and a struggle Tvith Anderson, and when Davidson tried to separate them Clarke hit him. The caretaker summoned Constable Hargreaves, and he started to arrest Clarke, who was under the influence of liquor, and resisted, while Paniena. who was with Clarke, interfered and obstructed the arrest. Othet Maoris came round, and also two more policemen. Though Paniena led the Maoris on to obstrucj. the arrest. Clarke was eventually arrested, as also was Paniena after a warm time in the convenience. In the struggle Panipnflj i knocked off a constable's helmet and I stood on it. I Clarke denied that he hit Davidson, , and consequently resisted when he was J being arrested for something he did not do. He admitted having had previous argument with Davioson. Both men were each fined 40/ and 21/ costs. aUSCELIiANEOTTS. Frederick HuddJestonc, on a charge of having changed his place of abode without having notified the Government Statistician, was fined 40/ and 7/ costs. Annie Dunn (53), for having loitered in the street for immoral purposes, wafi sentenced to three months' imprisonment.
