LABOUR SITUATION CONTINUES CHAOTIC.

PRICES TENFOLD THE NORMAL RATE.

(Received 11 a.m.)

PETE.OGRAD, June 29. Extravagant labour demands continue to render the industrial situation chaouc Workmen often work for six hours and then take a day's restWages have doubled since the war began and again redoubled since the revolution. Unskilled men are making £500 a year, and skilled men £1,000. If the workmen strike, wages are demanded for the whole time the dispute lasts. When employers demur they are threatened with execution. It is almost imposs.ble for factories to continue under present conditions, and several large factories announce that they are closing. The prices of many commodities are tenfold the pre-war rate. A simple lunoh costs twelve shilling while boots which formerly cost thirty shillings now cost £10. State control seems the only method of overcoming the difficulties. Mr. Arthur Hcndereon, the British Labour leader, is visiting Moscow.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
