BOAT BUILDERS' PAY.

APPLICATION KOR INCREASE. Mr. T. Ilarle Giles. Conciliation Commissioner, presided, this morning at a sitting of the Conciliation Council to deal with n dispute tiled by the Auckland Distriit Ship Yacht, and Hoa I Builders' Industrial Colon of Workers. Sixty-se-ven firms were cired.

The union claims were for a 44-hour week, with minimum wage for Journeymen l.oatliuilders and shipwrights of 2/ per hour. The old award was for n 44-hours week, with wages for Journeymen shipwrights 1/fl per hour, and lioathullders 1 4J per hour. Fnder the new claim a boat was defined as any vessel under 15 tons built tinder cover. If not l.ullt under cover it is io he classed and paid for as ship work. Overtime was asked at the rate of time and it-half, up to HI p.m. ; after that double lime to l.c paid. Every Journeyman engaged in country work is to be supp:ied with suitable board and lodgings not to exceed 25/ per week. It is also stipulated Hint no piecework shall be allowed. The pay for apprentices to l.c: First year 12/0 per week, second 17/8. third 22/0, fourth 27 ft. and fifth -14. One apprentice is allowed to every three journeymen.
