Lieutenant T. L. Wilson and Mr. & James (Wellington), and Messrs. Colin Morris and J. C. Adams (Tauranga) are staying- at the CentraL Mr. J. O'Donovan, Commissioner oi Police, and Captain Hugo, chief inspector of fire brigades, "arrived from, the South yesterday, and are staying at the Central. Mrs. F. E. Barrme left for Whangsrei last night. She wul deliver an address on the importance of domestic science in the education of girls to the local branch of the Teachers' Institute in that district, Mr. J. F. Hosking has been re-elected unopposed as member of the Auckland University College Council to represent the General Assembly. An old and respected resident of Devonport in the person of Mr. Eobert Johnston, passed away at his home, at Rock Fergus, Victoria Road, Devonport, yesterday. He was in his eighty-ufth year. Mr. James Buchanan, of Matakana Lower, who died suddenly several day* ago, aged 7S years, arrived in New Zealand in 1563 in the ship Nimrod. The death is reported of Mrs. Rachel Cullen. wife of Mr. John Cullen, exCommissioner of Police for New Zealand. Mrs. E. Nicol has received word that the services of her second and only surviving son, Sergeant-Major Harold Hulme, of the Eighteenth Reinforcement, have been retained on the administrative staff at Sling Camp, England. During the absence of the Rev. G. T. Brown, of Masterton, who will leave as chaplain with the Twenty-eighth Reinforcements, his place as minister ol Knox Church, Masterton, will be taken by the Esv. Robert Ingram, formerly ot Parnell.
