STOLEN WATCHES.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WILANUAREI, Thursday. At the. Wlhangarei Magistrate's Court to-day two men, Mauneoll W. 11. llardingc and John Itoacbe, were chargeel with stealing two watches and a chain, the property of Sergt.-Major Brydon. The evidence for the police 6howed that Sergt.-Major Brydon had left two watches and a chain in his room at Jamee' Temperance Hotel. The two men concerned had gone to the hotel, wandered upstairs, and committed the theft. One watch with the chain had been sold for ;">/ to a man who bad since left Whangarei. Both accused bad been drinking heavily. They pleaded guilty, putting it down to drink. Kadi defendant was fined £5, in default one month's imprisonment. The value of the watch and chain, which had not been recovered, £.1 10/, would have to be paid by Roache, while Hardinge would have to refund the 5/ he had received for the watch disposed of, and also have to pay all costs.
