IN PLOEGSTEERT SECTOR
HEAVY DEATH ROLL IN AIR-RAID
OVER A HUNDRED KILLED
The British advance east of Messines and the pressure put upon the enemy in this area have compelled the Germans to the southward between the River Lys and St. Yves to abandon their front trenches and retreat to safer positions. The British are closely following the retreat, and are maintaining their pressure at full power. They have taken over seven thousand prisoners during the past week. The German raiders who bombed London caused more serious casualties than the first reports indicated, a total of 103 being killed and 439 injured. A school was wrecked, ten infants being killed and fifty injured. The raiders, who flew very high, escaped in the clouds with the exception of one, who was brought down. The Allies are extending their sphere of operations in Greece, and in addition to the landing of troops at various points on the coast they have sent cavalry forces to occupy Eastern Thessaly, including Ellasona and Larissa. There was some fighting at Larissa, where a treacherous attack was made on the French troops.
