SHORTAGE OF LIME.

FARMERS SUFFER. STATE WORKS PROPOSED. The serious shortage of lime and a suggestion to provide a remedy by way of a State-controlled lime works was the subject of a resolution considered oy the executive, of thtrvi'armcrs' Union at its meeting to-day. The resolution, which was originally presented to the Te Awamutu branch by the Pukeatua branch, and forwarded on by the former, road as follows:-—"That this branch of tho Farmers' Union urge upon its executive tlie necessity of a (.'overumeut lime works, and requests the executive to ask the Government to sent experts to report upon a suitable site, and to provide an estimate of the cost."

The president pointed out that tho matter was the subject of a remit, which was passed at the recent Farmers' Conference, to be sent on to the Dominion conference, as follows: —"That owing to the showtage of artificial manure the executive be asked to make every endeavour to improve the supply of agricultural lime, and that this conference requests the Government free railage of lime for 100 miles from any point to which it may be.brought by water or jother carriage from places not served by railways."

Jt was considered necessary, however. to take direct action, and a decision was arrived at to make immediate rcpresentatioas to Parliament on the matter.
