THE BARBAROUS HUN.
LILLE'S 'BLACK HOLE." LONDON, June 11. Two Australians have escaped from the "Black Hole" of Lille. Describing the state of the old underground fort, they state there was not sufficient room to enable all to lie down. The prisoners were allowed out for only five minutes daily. They were supplied with a limited quantity of nauseating black coffee, which they had to drink out of their helmets. Everyone was weak with hunger, and the guards refused to give them water. Later a party was taken to Manquion, a journey which occupied 30 hours, without food. On arrival, tbey ate grass nnd dandelions. Rain and cold were continuous, and they were without blankets the whole time.— (United Service.)
