The la<iy in charge of the post office lett the scene of the attempted robbery at about 7 p.m. on Saturday night, when everything was all right, and on arriving there at about 7 a.m. this morning, ehe found that the lock on the door had been forced. On entering the office, she found everything in disorder, papers being strewn aU over the floor. The safe, which stood in a corner, had been tipped on its side, and the brass work on the front had been forced off in an attempt to get at the contents. On fitting the key in the lock she founcl that it would not open on account of its damaged condition. She immediately summoned the police, who took an inventory of the place. The thief or thieves had evidently been disturbed, ior they left a file which had been converted into a chisel. Nothing of any value seems to have Ibeen taken.
