HEALTH OF SOLDIERS
XEW SCHEME OF SEGREGATION. With five thousand men in camp at Tienthaiii on Thursday there were only twenty-seven men in hospital, one being a serious case, though not of an infectious nature. This (says the "Dominion"! is considered to be a record for the month of May. and is regarded as an indication of a probable low rate of sickness in the camps during the winter. especially in view of the arrangements which have been made to segregate men from the lour military districts in the new camp at Tauherenikau. The Thirtieth Reinforcement., whose mobilisation will begin to-morrow, mill be the lirst draft to come under the operation of the new scheme. As men from each district arc mobilised they will receive their first and second issues bf clothing and equipment at Trentham. and within a week will proceed to Tauherenikau. where they will be kept strictly within the bounds of their own camp for one month. The segregation camp is arranged in such a way that the four separate camps, each complete with cookhouses and other appointments, form tho coiners of a hu2e square. As the early portions of recruit drill are usually carried out in squads, there ■will be no need for men from different districts to meet on the parade ground until towards the end of the month. After the month of segregation is completed, the troops will follow the usual training in and movements from camp to camp. During this week a very large number of men will be mobilised at Trcntliam for tho Thirtieth Reinforcements and to make up shortages in other drafts.
