TEVIPOKARI; ACCOIIMODATION.
Through the compulsory acquisition by the City Council of the existing site and buildings of the Auckland University College, in connection with the Jermyii Street inipfoveinent scheme, the College Council has to obtain tempoTSry accommodation elsewhere. The Auckland Gram-max School Board hae offered the use of the buildings in Syrnondo Street recently vacated, and the College Council yesterday eoiisider6d the. report of Air. dimming and Mr. floldebro, architects, regarding the accommodation which that building, in conjunction with the Choral Hall, already the property of. the College Council, would provide. Mr. Cumming attended tfnd explained the scheme that had been drawn up after various consultations with Professor A. P. W. Thomas, chairman of the Grammar School Board, and the. professors of the Auckland College. The architects reported that the Grammar School, without costly alterations, would provide, sufficient accommodation for ihc whole of the arts section and for the law section, but that no provision coiild be made there for the science section. The architects submitted plaris for alterations at the Half to provide for the science division. Under this scheme the wtiote of thfe existing accommodation at the Choral Jlu.ll would be utilised, chiefly for lecture rooms, and supplemented by the erection of wings to provide for the departments of chemistry, physics and biology. The front elevation would also be improved. The proposed additions wotitd be mainly on the Alfred Street side. Provision for the School of Music* would have to be made elsewhere. The council approved of the scheme as set forth, but decided that the carrying of tlte pfop'osals into effect he suspeiided until the Government has been fifrthcr communicated with. A deputation, eompriring the chairman, Mr T. W. Loje, Professor Segar, Hon. (f. Fowlds, and Dr. McDowell, was ap]K>inted to lay the matter before the Government.
