BOROUGH COUNCIL __3__l_G. The Mayor (Mr J. AY. Ellis) presided over Che usual meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council on Friday. An opinion was recived from the borough solicitors as to the liability of occupies, or owners ot properties for the clearing ot street frontages, aud it was decided to authorise the solicitors to take action. An Inquiry from the Yv'aikato Shipping Company as to the possibility- of erecting a goods sncd near the wharf -nas referred to the Legal ana Finance Committee for a report. Mr W. Patton, of FranMon, lodged a claim lor compensation in connection with an accident he snstained allegedly through rue negligence of the borough employees, and It was referred to the Legal and Finance Conimltee. Tlsch were temporarily appointed drain end building and sanitary plumbing inspectors respectively. Howden, Snell. tiosling, and Jolly. and to confer with Winter Show Kx'eentlve. By-laws: Crs. Tldd, Tombs. Frasor. Smith, and Fow. WE. A. CLASS FORMED AT HAMILTON. At a largely attended meeting, held at Hamilton on Satnrdav night, over which his Worship the Mayor \Mr J. W. lilUs) presided, addresses were given ou the work and methods of the Association by Messrs J. A. Young, Mclienzie. and Manson. It was decided to form a class for the study of "Economies." to meet on Saturday evenings. Mr McKenzto. resident inspector of schools, to be tutor. Some twenty-five members enrolled, and It is probable tbat others will join in ihe immediate future.
