Four were unsuccessfully attacked.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) The French losses for the previous week were not cabled. For the week before that they were six. BARBAROUSLY ATTACKED. MADRID, May 20. A submarine shelled the Spanish steamer Patricio, killing the chief engineer. The crew abandoned the ship. Cabinet is preparing a protest against the outrage.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) STANDARDISED MERCHANT SKIPS. (Received 10.10 a.m.) LONDON. May 20. Tn the House of Lords Lord Lytton stated that some of the standardised merchantmen would be ready in July.— (A. and N.Z. (able.)
