BORON IN MILK.

A milk supplier named Harry Jarvis was charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day on two informations of having sold milk containing boron compound. The Crown Prosecutor asked that a heavy penalty be imposed. The defendant had previously heeii convicted for adding water to milk. These prosecutions. he said, were becoming 1 numerous, and would be no effective de--3 terrent unless heavy fines were imposed. ' The use of boron compound was very in- ! jurious to little children and babies. ' For the defence Mr. O'Regan stated 1 that: he intended to plead guilty. The - circumstances were that, owing to the ' shortage of watpr for cooling purpos&s ' during the dry weather. Jarvis had 1 placed a little carbonate of soda in his 1 milk as a preservative. He had com- ; mitted a breach of the law quite unin- ' tentronally. The Magistrate took a serious view of , the case, and imposed a penalty of £20 i with costs. An order was also made : that the conviction be advertised.
