MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

THE NOMINATIONS. Considerable interest is attached to the biennial election for members of the controlling councils of the city and tho suburban boroughs, which is fixed for Wednesday the 25th inst. For the Auckland City Council, 15 nominations, three of which are from now aspirants for honours, have been received. It is considered likely that Mr. Gunson, who is seeking re-election to tho mayoral chair, will be returned unopposed. At Onehunga three candidates—Messrs E. V. Sutherland, C. C. Davis and J. J. Boyd—have been nominated for the mayoral seat vacated by Mr. J. Rowe. A lively interest is being taken in the preliminary arrangements, and a keen light is anticipated. At Mount Eden Mr. 0. Nicholson, the Mayor, will be opposed by Mr. R. D. Stewart, a sitting member of the Council. The Mayor of Birkenhead, Mr. J. f. McPhail. is seeking another term ol ofliee. No candidate has so far come forward for the Mayoralty of Northeote, which Mr. G. Fraser, the present Mayor, does not intend to contest. The only candidate in the field for the Mayoralty of Devonport is Mr. J. Henderson, the present Mayor. For the mayoralty of Newmarket, which has been vacated by Mr. McColl, Mr. C.
