'■ The Board set up by the Minister of : Defence to deal with applications for special financial assistance to soldiers j held its first meeting this week, and com- . menced to deal with the most urgent ' cases, which are those of men who apI pealed before the Military Service 1 Hoards, with the result that the new , organisation has been asked to consider , a special financial grant to enable them to meet liabilities coming within the scope of the scheme. Applications from men who were not called in the ballot will then be considered, and if necessary, information from the locality in which tho soldier lived will be secured by the Military Service Board of that paYticu- . lar district.
